City of Tucson trash customers also get Brush and Bulky pickup twice a year at the curb. Pima County's stations are run by WM under contract and charge county fees.

Los Reales: fees, payment and what it takes

Los Reales is the City of Tucson's only active landfill, and it takes residential self-haulers as well as commercial haulers. The city's rates: a covered load under 2,000 lb is $18, a covered load over 2,000 lb is $38 a ton, and an uncovered load adds $10. Every load adds a $2 environmental fee. A tarp, blanket or sheet counts as a cover.

Payment is card, tap or Apple Pay only (Visa, Mastercard or Discover). Residential loads over 10,000 lb need a deposit.

It accepts mattresses, furniture, rugs, green waste, pallets, concrete and construction debris. Tires are $5 each, passenger only, up to 10.

Free recycling and hazardous waste at Los Reales

The campus recycling center takes scrap metal and metal appliances at no charge, with a $20 refrigerant fee for fridges, freezers and AC units. City residents can also drop curbside recyclables and glass there.

The household hazardous waste drop-off runs Thursday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., closed the second Saturday of most months while community events run. It's free for City of Tucson residents and $15 for Marana, Oro Valley, Sahuarita and unincorporated Pima County. Bring a driver license or utility bill.

Pima County transfer stations

Catalina (Oracle Road north of Tangerine) and Sahuarita (west of I-19) are open Monday to Saturday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., per WM's facility pages. Residential loads are $27.60 per vehicle under a ton or $48 a ton. Both take furniture, carpet, green waste and construction debris.

Ryan Field, off Ajo Way, is smaller: $13.50 per vehicle, bagged household waste only, Thursday to Saturday per a county flyer last updated in 2023. Call 520-883-0481 before a trip.

All three take up to 5 tires a year free from residents, plus antifreeze, batteries, oil and paint up to 5 gallons a month.

Brush and Bulky: the curbside option

Twice a year, City of Tucson crews visit each of the city's 26 trash service areas for Brush and Bulky collection. Set items out by 6 a.m. on the Monday of your week, no more than two weeks early, at least 3 feet from bins and meters. The limit is 10 cubic yards.

Accepted: appliances (remove fridge doors), up to 5 auto tires in a separate pile, brush up to 5 feet, boxed cacti, furniture and carpet, lumber and scrap metal. Not accepted: concrete, dirt and rock, glass, TVs and monitors, and hazardous waste. A paid special pickup is available any time at 520-791-3171.

Traveling by RV?

Los Reales refuses bulk liquids and raw septage, so black and gray tanks don't belong at the landfill. For tank dumping, the Tucson RV dump stations guide on our sister site lists checked options. For trash heading up I-10, the Phoenix transfer station guide covers the city's two stations.
