Scottsdale bulk trash schedule, plus the free weekly landfill load

The Scottsdale bulk trash schedule gives each of four areas one brush and bulk week a month for homes on city trash service. In November 2026, Area 2 goes Nov 2, Area 3 Nov 9, Area 4 Nov 16 and Area 1 Nov 30. You can haul a free 2,000 lb load to Salt River Landfill every week.

Both perks are for single-family homes that pay Scottsdale for residential trash service. City yards are not drop-off sites for hazardous waste, electronics, boxes or appliances, so those go through pickups and events instead.

Which week is yours: the four areas and their dates

Scottsdale splits the city into four bands from north to south. Area 1 runs from the north city limits to Deer Valley Road, Area 2 from Deer Valley Road to Cactus Road or Via Linda, Area 3 from there to Indian Bend Road, and Area 4 from Indian Bend Road to the south city limits. The city's My Services lookup shows the dates for your address.

Dates left in 2026, per the city's schedule: Area 1 Nov 30 to Dec 4 and Dec 28 to 31; Area 2 Nov 2 to 6 and Dec 7 to 11; Area 3 Nov 9 to 13 and Dec 14 to 18; Area 4 Nov 16 to 20 and Dec 21 to 25.

Each week runs Monday to Friday, but the crew passes your street only once and won't come back for a pile set out after it has been by. The 3 day rule: piles go out no sooner than 3 days before the Monday of your week. HOA rules can be stricter.

What the crew takes, and what stays at the curb

Accepted: furniture, mattresses, tree limbs cut to 6 feet and under 12 inches across, bagged and tied grass, leaves and palm skins, and boxed cactus (boxes 2 by 2 by 2 feet or smaller, saguaro cut to 6 feet). CRT and projection TVs go here too, since the electronics events no longer take them. Glass is picked up only in small, sturdy, labeled boxes.

Refused: dirt, rock, sod and sand; concrete; fiberglass tubs, showers, pool equipment and insulation; construction and remodel debris such as lumber, drywall, roofing, carpet, tile and countertops; car parts, tires and rims; regular household trash; and hazardous waste. Scottsdale makes remodeling debris your job or your contractor's, and it is illegal to leave it in the alley or a city container.

How to set out a pile so it gets picked up

Make two piles, one green waste and one everything else, at least 3 feet apart. Each should stay within 10 feet long, 6 feet wide and 4 feet tall. Stack items neatly along your front property line, or on your side of the alley if you have one, keeping the alley clear. Point all cut branch ends the same way.

Keep piles 4 feet from city bins, water meters, cable boxes, fire hydrants and block walls, and never use empty lots, washes or HOA common areas. The crew allows 20 minutes for an oversized pile. Anything left after it finishes is yours to remove within 72 hours of notice, along with the small debris the equipment leaves behind.

The free weekly load at Salt River Landfill

Scottsdale residential customers can take one load up to 2,000 lb per calendar week, Monday to Saturday, to Salt River Landfill at no charge. A second trip in the same week is billed on your next utility bill. The landfill is on the Beeline Highway at Gilbert Road and is run by the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community.

Bring the printed top portion of your current Scottsdale utility bill showing solid waste charges, plus a driver's license matching the name and address on it. E-bill customers must print the statement; phone screenshots are refused. Use a non-commercial vehicle rated 3/4 ton or less, or a load of 1.5 cubic yards or less, and cover it or pay $20.

Over 2,000 lb or without the right ID, the whole load is billed at $60 a ton with a $35 minimum, and the city won't reimburse it. The landfill takes cash and major credit cards, does not take tires, and adds surcharges for TVs and Freon appliances. Mesa residents use the same landfill under different rules, covered in the Mesa dump guide.

Appliances, move-in boxes and electronics

Appliance collection runs once a month on the last Thursday, by request, for washers, dryers, stoves, microwaves, water heaters, dishwashers, fridges and freezers. A fridge or freezer is taken only after a certified technician has removed the compressor and recovered the Freon, and its doors, hinges and latches must come off. The city page posts no fee. The last Thursday of November 2026 is Thanksgiving, a city holiday, so call 480-312-5600 before you book that week.

New residents can request a free pickup of empty, flattened move-in boxes.

Computers, printers, phones and flat-screen TVs go to the free Electronics Recycling Event at the North Corporation Yard, 9191 E San Salvador Drive, on Saturday, Dec 5, 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bring the same bill and license, keep items in the trunk or bed, and stay in the car. Batteries, fluorescent bulbs and appliances are refused.

Paint, batteries and other hazardous waste

Scottsdale picks up household hazardous waste at your home, up to 3 free collections a year per address, in every month of 2026 except June and December. Signups open on the 1st of each month at 8 a.m. and close when full, and the city's page showed all appointments full when we checked. Each visit takes up to 20 gallons, counted by container size, with no container over 5 gallons.

Set labeled, sealed containers at the front edge of the property by 7 a.m., marked HHW. Paint, pool chemicals, pesticides, car batteries, fluids and small rechargeable batteries qualify. Electronics, large appliances, ammunition and e-bike, scooter and other large lithium batteries do not; the city leaves those to you and a private disposal company.

For medications, the city says to mix them with water and coffee grounds or litter, seal the container and put it in the black bin. Sharps go in the black bin too, inside a taped, puncture-proof container marked "Do Not Recycle, Sharps." Other cities' rules are side by side in the Valley bulk trash comparison.

Questions people ask

When is bulk trash pickup in Scottsdale?

Once a month, during a Monday to Friday week set by your area. In November 2026, Area 2 is Nov 2 to 6, Area 3 Nov 9 to 13, Area 4 Nov 16 to 20 and Area 1 Nov 30 to Dec 4. The crew passes once, so set the piles out no sooner than 3 days before that Monday and before the crew arrives.

Can Scottsdale residents dump at the landfill for free?

Yes. Residential customers can take one load up to 2,000 lb a week, Monday to Saturday, to Salt River Landfill at no charge. Bring the printed top of your current utility bill and a matching driver's license, since phone copies are refused. Heavier loads, or loads without the right ID, are billed at $60 a ton with a $35 minimum.

Will Scottsdale bulk pickup take a mattress or an old TV?

Yes to both. Mattresses and furniture are on the accepted list, and CRT and projection TVs now go in the bulk pile because the electronics events no longer take them. Flat-screen TVs, computers and phones go to the free electronics event at the North Corporation Yard instead, next held Saturday, Dec 5, 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Where do I get rid of tires and paint in Scottsdale?

Tires and rims are refused by bulk pickup, and Salt River Landfill does not take tires either, so ask the city at 480-312-5600. Paint goes out through the free at-home hazardous waste pickup, up to 3 times a year and 20 gallons a visit. Signups open on the 1st of each month at 8 a.m., except June and December.
